Western Chances scholarships are awarded to talented and motivated young people who have worked hard and been recognised by their nominators, teachers, lecturers and the wider community.
There are two types of Western Chances Scholarships. One is for new applicants, and the round for new scholarship application opens at the start of term three. The other, for scholarship holders who want to renew their scholarships, is open for applications at the start of term one.
To be eligible for the renewal round students must have previously received a Western Chances scholarship and be enrolled at a government school, TAFE, university or community service organisation. All applicants must continue to demonstrate that they are talented, motivated and require financial assistance.
Students must also be residents of the municipalities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley, or Wyndham. Sometimes, in order to pursue their studies, recipients must move away from Melbourne’s west. In these circumstances, they remain eligible for scholarship renewal.
The renewal round will be open for six weeks. Supporting evidence should be submitted as soon as possible after the final application has been submitted, up to a week after the round has closed.
