Victorian families can now save time and money thanks to simpler access to public transport concessions for students.
From term 1 this year, school students will be able to use their PTV-approved school identification card to get concession travel on public transport.
The change means students at participating schools no longer need to arrange, pay for and carry the dedicated PTV School Student ID.
Allowing the use of PTV-approved school identification means students don’t need to obtain passport photos and pay for the dedicated PTV School Student ID, saving families up to $30 a year per student.
The use of PTV-approved cards is an interim step in simplifying student identification requirements. A more affordable Regional Student Pass will be available from term 1 next year, increasing the discount for regional students to 50% of the yearly cost of concession travel.
Students whose schools choose not to participate can continue to use the existing PTV School Student ID.
