You might have heard news from time to time about the growing technology of Virtual Reality (VR), and wondered if you could afford to invest in it.
Melbourne has a place where you can experience VR for yourself, and learn about the technology in a fun way. VR Plus in Carlton is the home of VR gaming.
There are over 30 different games to choose from, each with its own special features and personal appeal.
Blocks lets you easily create 3D objects in virtual reality, using six simple tools to create a volumetric masterpiece, or simply let your imagination run wild. In Audioshield, you block incoming orbs generated by music. It works with any song file, online music streaming or the Song of the Day.
Real life adventures include Everest, which lets you join an expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest, and Apollo 11, where you fly the command module, land the lunar lander, and explore the Moon’s surface, before returning to earth in a fiery re-entry.
Of course there are also many combat scenarios, pitting you against zombies, aliens, samurai and others. In one game, Deadly Hunter, you fight Orcs and a variety of monsters, in 20 different scenes which can take four hours to play out.
The games are suitable for players of age 10 and over, and can be played alone or in groups of up to seven people.
Games cost $45 per person for a 50 minute session, but can be cheaper for group bookings.
VR Plus is at 272 Lygon Street, Carlton, open Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 8pm, and on weekends from 10am to 9pm.
