Homemade Rice Milk

Many people prefer milk made from rice, soy, or even almonds, rather than dairy milk. Although you can buy these in great variety from the supermarket, it is easy enough to make your own.

    This recipe produces 1 litre of rice milk. It can be stored in the fridge up to a week.


    • 2 cups of brown rice
    • 10 cups of filtered water
    • Pinch of sea salt
    • 1 vanilla pod


    • Wash the rice in a sieve.
    • Place in a large bowl and cover completely with the water.
    • Add the vanilla and salt.
    • Warm over a simmering heat for 30 minutes.
    • When the heated rice has puffed up, transfer it to a blender.
    • Run the blender until the rice is completely smooth and even.
    • Strain with a strainer or fine gauze cloth for 3 hours.
