The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is excited to announce Cultural Diversity Week, a program of events from 16-24 March.
Coinciding with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Harmony Day held every year on 21 March, it’s a fantastic way to celebrate the everyday diversity of Victorians.
Victoria’s largest multicultural celebration, Cultural Diversity Week features a week-long program of festivals and events in metropolitan and regional areas.
Victoria’s Multicultural Festival
Victoria’s Multicultural Festival in Federation Square is the highlight of Cultural Diversity Week, presenting an incredible day of food, music, dance, art, design and activities for people of all ages.
Come to Fed Square on Saturday 24 March from 12pm for a free day of food, music, dance, art, design and activities for people of all ages. Enjoy the amazing array of musicians and dancers on the main stage, try the many delicious flavours on offer at Culture Bites, sip coffees and teas in the Global Garden, and explore the Arts Precinct, or check out the range of fun activities for kids.
Following on from Victoria’s Multicultural Festival, Culture Waves will take also take place on Saturday 23. It takes us into the night with a special music event for young people featuring some of Victoria’s most acclaimed young artists. This free evening of incredible music celebrates how cultural diversity is influencing Victoria’s local music scene.
Whitehorse Global Fiesta
Global Fiesta, Whitehorse Council’s national Harmony Day event, is held at Box Hill Gardens on Sunday 17 March from 12pm to 4pm.
You can expect cultural cuisine, music from around the world, local community stalls, cultural games, an Aussie animal farm, and a selection of kids rides. Meet on-screen stars Alex the Lion from Madagascar and Po the Panda from Kung-Fu Panda.
