    New Darebin Trail Link

The Darebin Trail, a shared path for walkers and cyclists along Darebin Creek, will be connected to Alphington by a new link.

The Farm Road Link will connect approximately mid-way along the last 1.8 kilometre section of the Darebin Trail. It will provide access to more than 600 kilometres of off-road trails, meeting a number of key trails including the Main Yarra Trail, Anniversary Trail and Capital City Trail.

The link will provide easier access for school children to travel to and from schools in the local area, and a safer off-road option to commute to the city and other centres.

    Driverless Bus For Bundoora

The Autonobus, Victoria’s first driverless shuttle bus, will transport students around La Trobe University in Bundoora.

The bus will operate along Science Drive at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus, shuttling travellers from public transport interchanges and carparks.

The Autonobus has advanced sensor systems that can detect objects with incredibly fast response times. Although driverless, it will be supervised by an operator at all times.

A trial will run until July 2018, examining all aspects of safety, operations, passenger experience and integration. During this phase, customers can register to ride the Autonobus at Latrobe.edu.au/autonobus.

    More Open Space For Communities

Work to remove nine dangerous and congested level crossings between Caulfield and Dandenong will create open space for recreation activities, equal to about 11 MCGs.

The land will be transformed into parks, paths, play areas and a 17-kilometre walking and cycling trail. It will include recreation facilities for seniors, multi-purpose sports courts, rock climbing, skate elements and two fenced dog parks for off-leash dog owners.

More than 4000 trees will be planted, primarily gums, eucalypts and other natives known to attract birdlife, and more than 430 additional car spaces.

The plans follow extensive consultation from an Expert Panel, which received over 850 surveys and spoke to over 2000 community members.
