Singapore Day is an annual event organised for Singaporeans living abroad.
Held each year since 2007 in major cities with a significant number of Singaporeans, this day-long event reunites Singaporeans and provides an occasion for them to strengthen bonds, to relive their fond memories of home and to connect with the latest developments in Singapore.
In Australia, Singapore Day is celebrated in Sydney and Melbourne. This year it will be celebrated in Melbourne on Saturday 9 September at Flemington Racecourse, from 10.30am to 5pm.
Food will feature strongly, with traditional Singapore “street hawker” treats such as Laksa, Char Kway Teow, Indian Rojak, and other dishes reflecting the multicultural nature of the island city state.
From midday musical entertainment is provided by singer Aisyah Aziz, the TENG Ensemble, X-Factor finalist Natalie Ong, comedy by Hossan Leong, and many others.
The day will also feature two competitions. By referring your friends and family to sign up for Singapore Day, you can win an Australia-Singapore return air ticket on Singapore Airlines. There is also a Photo Contest for memorable moments of Singapore Day 2017.
The event is organised to allow Singaporeans to get together, so it is not open to the general public, but Singaporeans who attend are allowed to bring a guest.
