Something For Everyone At The Royal Show

Every year since 1848, Melburnians enjoy Victoria’s largest showcase of agriculture, the Royal Melbourne Show, usually coinciding with the school holidays.

If your child has a love of furry friends, they'll want to check out the Royal Melbourne Show during their term 3 holidays.

Conducted annually by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, the Show has grown over the years from a festival of livestock and agriculture to a fortnight of entertainments and delights, for all ages and tastes.

Visitors can see, pat and feed hundreds of farm animals, including horses, pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry. You can even try your hand at shearing a sheep, or milking a cow. The displays include horse show jumping, working dogs demonstrating their skills, and the popular wood chopping competitions.

The Show offers a wide variety of award-winning food and drink. The Winning Tastes Pavilion hosts some of Melbourne’s best eateries and Australia’s most acclaimed chefs and producers. Mouth-watering cuisines from around the world are available in the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion.

This year 372 showbags are available, varying in price from $10 to $30. Many are old favourites such as AFL, Barbie, sweets and TV and movie merchandise. There will be 70 completely new showbags, including Wonder Woman, the Skittles bag and the Emoji bag.

The many exciting rides are found in three different areas. The most exciting are in the Coca-Cola Thrillseekers Carnival. The Adventure Carnival has rides suitable for the whole family, and children under six will find their best choices in the Kids’ Carnival. The towering Nova Sky Wheel gives spectacular views of Melbourne Showgrounds and the city beyond.

There is live entertainment daily and nightly. This year will feature performances by Anthony Callea, Jessica Mauboy and popular TV children’s entertainers Hi-5. Every night of the Show ends with spectacular fireworks.

The Show is held at Melbourne Showgrounds in Ascot Vale, 9.30am to 9pm daily from 23 September to 3 October.

Standard ticket prices are $40 for adults and $20 for children over 4. Two types of family ticket are available. Online bookings made before 22 September get a 20% discount, or 30% for RACV members.
