    2018 Business Mission to Asia

    Expressions of interest are now open to the biennial Business Mission, which showcases the best Melbourne has to offer in the fields of innovation, health and life sciences, urban sustainability and general aviation.

    Lord Mayor Robert Doyle AC will lead the mission to Osaka, Japan and Tianjin, Beijing, Wuxi and Suzhou, China from March 21 to 30 next year.

    The City of Melbourne has teamed up with live local comedy talk show “That Startup Show”, a web series focusing on the fast-growing Australian entrepreneurial boom and its culture, to develop a catalogue of stock images which the innovation and entrepreneurial community can access, contribute to, use and share.

    Small Business, Retail and Hospitality Chair Councillor Susan Riley said the library will highlight “key aspects of Melbourne's startup community including co-working spaces, biotech, city life, makers, accelerators, diversity, media tech, laneways and coffee culture”.

    Festive windows

    The annual Festive Window Dressing Competition will run from Monday 20 November until Friday 15 December. 

    Businesses are invited to get into the festive spirit by decorating their shop window with creative decorations to enhance a sense of joy throughout the community. Shoppers can nominate their favourite festive window displays, with the nominees going in the draw to win prizes for the most creative window display.

    First Prize is a $5000 LightFM Radio Marketing Campaign and 2018 Whitehorse Business Group Membership.

    New Mayor elected

    Whitehorse City Council elected Cr Andrew Davenport, Ward Councillor for Riversdale Ward, as its new Mayor for 2017/2018.

    Cr Davenport’s areas of interest include supporting local businesses, increasing library services, council finances, improving amenities across Whitehorse and encouraging female participation in sport.

    Bicycle rules

    Council reminds all community members about important changes to road rules concerning bicycles made by VicRoads in July.

    The new rules include:

    Bikes are now allowed to ride in bus lanes.

    Cyclists can be fined on the spot for using a mobile phone.

    Drivers must give way to bikes crossing on a green bike signal.
